Where Oh Where Do We Go From Here?
A World Full of Woes
Cornavirus. COVID-19. Racial tensions and inequality. Police brutality. Monuments of destruction, division and oppression. Need I go on?
In the minds of everyone willing and able to think and comprehend for themselves, must be the question: where the hell do we go from here? Followed by the more important question: how the hell will we get there?
Many mask wearing citizens wonder if they’ll be the next victim of COVID-19 even though they are taking recommended precautions. And if so, they’re concerned about and dread the thought of leaving loved ones behind in the event that contracting the disease be fatal.
We Matter
The Black Lives Matter movement seeks to balance the scales to a much greater degree than thought existed by many. And yet no matter how much the scales are tipped to level the playing field, black lives will always matter while simultaneously being weighed down by a scale that was never designed to be balanced.
It took eight minutes and forty six seconds for the world to see, realize and admit that Colin Kaepernick was justified in his protest and yet, to date, I have not heard or read of a single solitary apology to Mr. Kaepernick (unbalanced scales). Perhaps those apologies took place but my ears and eyes were so overly consumed by media that I mentally checked out and missed them. Nonetheless, he was justified from the start.
What About Our Kids?
What kind of life can we expect them to have if we don’t get it right? Will they ever know or experience their right to quiet enjoyment? Re-enforcement of their worthiness must be instilled from birth to their listening ears and recalled in their minds at the precise moment that they need it most. You are worthy. You are kind. You are loved. You are somebody. These words should poetically be sounded out yet while they are still in the womb. From conception, these truths should be planted and nurtured like seeds in a garden.
Where do we go from here?
So I ask again: Where oh where do we go from here? What role will we individually choose to play in righting the wrongs of the world? Will it be activism? Will we put our dollars to work in support of a worthy cause? Will we all do our part to eradicate COVID-19 or will we operate in defiance of recommended life saving strategies? Will we re-evaluate our priorities for the sake of our collective good of all people so that the scales shift to correct the imbalance?
