I Go to Work
Hey, I have bills to pay, so I go to work every day. Since I have to work, I might as well do it in style, right? I’m not a fashionista by any stretch of the imagination, and I’m definitely not bougie. But when it comes to outfitting my closet, what matters most to me is how clothes fit. Do they look good on me? Is it really my style, or do I just wish it were my style? And let’s not forget about this ever-changing body of mine. Ladies, you know what I mean. I’m talking about those ripples, lumps, and bulges that come with aging and consistent lack of exercise throughout our lives. Which brings me to my outfit of the day.

I purchased this leopard dress at the Goodwill Store on Crestwood Blvd in Birmingham, AL. This may be considered a bodycon dress, which no longer agrees with my body type/shape. However, the dress has rouching that minimizes the midsection. We need a little extra help when it comes to fitted dresses because you know, the aforementioned ripples, lumps and bulges. Anyhoo, when I put on the dress, something seemed off. I stared into the mirror at what appeared to be a blank canvas in need of an artist’s creative hand. The image staring back at me needed some umph; that hint of pizzazz was absent.

Then I thought about this vest that I purchased a couple of months ago at Ashley Stewart. I slipped it on over the dress and BAM, that was the ticket I needed to bump up the look a few notches. Uh oh, there goes that smile. The reflection staring back at me is looking better by the minute.

The buttons on the vest are rose gold and the only earrings that I had were white with rose gold trim. To me the white would have completely thrown everything off. Looking in each pocket of my hanging jewelry bag, I spotted a pair of earrings and a necklace that I had recently purchased at Cato Fashions. Whatever you do, do not overlook the Cato’s clearance rack. The rose gold ring, was a find at Kohl’s in Hoover, AL. While the metal on the necklace and earrings is gold, the stones are peachy and blend well with the rose gold buttons and belt buckles on the vest. The seashell on the necklace is a beige tone which fit well with the scheme of things.
The final 2 pieces to the fit of the day include a statement piece, my Dad’s (Lucious Hughley, Jr.. 1933 – 2020) gold Longines watch. I’ve had it since he passed away and this is the first time I’ve worn it, but it won’t be the last. I slipped on my Katie and Kellie beige platform patent leather sandals from DSW and I was ready for work.

Twenty-five minutes later I’m at my desk. Well, enough chitchat for the day. I’m a working girl and that means I gotta work so I can pay them bills.
Have a wonderful day and don’t forget that “Every Day Presents Another Opportunity to Hit the Reset Button on Your Life.“
