Christmas: Calm & Calamity
Calm & Calamity
Christmas the season of comfort and joy for most, is also a time of chaos, confusion and even depression for others. In speaking with a young lady recently, she expressed her anxiety over Christmas and I discovered that her dilemma is more common than one would think. The issue to her is monumental and without solution.
Here it is, she is an only child with a host of first cousins that were all raised more like sisters and brothers than cousins and all of the cousins now have their own children – 20 to be exact. Each year, she feels compelled to purchase gifts for all of the children ages 1 year to 16 years. She is a single entrepreneur and although doing well in her business, has limited resources. This is the first stress indicator. Next, the parents dictate what type of gifts they expect for their children (designer)! And last but certainly not least, the children much like their parents show no appreciation for anything……. STOP!!!
Somewhere the true meaning of Christmas has gotten lost here.
The Solution
Thrift store shopping, small stocking stuffers, books/crayons, mugs with hot chocolate, home-made/store made Christmas cupcakes or cookies…..or be totally free and not purchase anything for anyone! What really last and means more than any tangible gift is LOVE, PEACE and JOY!
Choose Calm over Calamity this season and every day.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
