Hope Floats

Does Your Hope Float?

29528944815_4ef1f25812_oDuring my quiet time this morning, the phrase “hope floats” came to mind and I continued to sit and began thinking about this phrase.  Off the top of my head, the thought of coming and going came to mind, almost like weaving in and out of consciousness.  That thought just didn’t seem right, it didn’t quite fit particularly since I had just finished my morning meditation and I was high on Christ.  I certainly was ready to conceptualize waning hope (decreasing strength or intensity).  I wondered why that example came to mind and had to reflect on whether or not that’s how I view hope in my own world. It was simply a fleeting thought.

Then an image of a boat appeared in my mind, a canoe to be exact and the canoe was just sitting there on the water.  The waves of the water were gently shifting the boat from side to side.  As the image became clearer, the waves appeared to be rolling and advancing the canoe along the river .  The waters began to rage and the yet the boat managed to stay afloat instead of capsizing or worse, sinking.  And then it happened, my ah-ha moment gave birth to the clarity of the term “hope floats.”  Whether life is smooth sailing or a facing a storm, hope may decrease in intensity, but it’s much like the calm waiting for the storm to pass.  Hope stays afloat, it’s always at the surface never really going away, but rather hope sometimes patiently awaits for the storm to pass.  When not in full force, hope floats washing completely away.

Does your hope float?

I talk more about my feelings on the word hope in the 1 Word Book.  The book is a collaboration of 14 authors who talk about the power of a single word in their lives.  You can read more about the 1 Word Book here.
